In Memory of "Bear"
June
2, 2010

As many of you know, our
sweet Bear had been having a
hard time lately.
After
overcoming heartworm
disease, beating cancer,
nearly drowning, she always
seemed to rally again and
surprise us with her
gumption. This time,
however, she was unable to
tackle her illness. Last
weekend she was unable to
walk. Without doing any
invasive testing, the vet at
Penn seemed pretty sure that
she had a brain tumor.
Steroids were prescribed,
and in true Bear fashion,
she rallied once again.
The past 10
days have been difficult:
she has been unable to stand
on her own at times, and
unwilling to walk further
than necessary. She splatted
several times (stubborn as
she was, she just didn't get
the idea to stay on the very
many rugs that we had placed
all over the slippery floors
for her). Last night was
probably her best since
going to Penn, and she even
took a little walk up the
street. But when I got up to
take her out this morning,
she was unable to walk.
Seeing her struggle to pull
herself up made the decision
easy. After a meal of
scrambled eggs, steak (she
was still able to raise her
lip at Bounce when he came
near her), cornbread and BBQ
chicken, all laced with a
few valium, we took her to
the lawn behind the vet's
and sat under a tree and let
her go.
All of our
dogs are special. We love
them all. Bear was not the
prettiest girl we ever saw,
but she certainly had the
biggest heart. But Bear had
a special place so deep in
my heart, I can't imagine
being without her.

In Memory Of
Sir Jake of Hartranft, CD,
CGC, Therapy Dog, OA, OAJ,
PD1, RL1, RL2
July 17, 1997 to May 3, 2010
What can you
say about Jake,
except that he was “All
Heart”. He is remembered by
everyone who knew him for
his wagging tail, goofy
antics, barking, and tongue
hanging out of the side of
his mouth. Everyone has a
"Jake story" He loved to
dress up and be an
ambassador, even being
Santa's reindeer pulling a
sleigh when Y2K9s delivered
treats to the PSPCA one
Christmas. When Jake and I
discovered agility, which we
enjoyed together for 7
years, he found what he was
meant to do. That was FUN
and every night until the
night before he died, he had
to play agility in his yard.
He is sorely
missed by me, Andy, Quiz,
Flash and Casey, as he
runs and jumps with Rowdy
over the bridge.

"Abby"
From the
moment we brought you home,
I realized how special you
were – afraid of the world,
shy to the core, yet so
endearing and loving.
Instructors would look at
you and comment, “She’ll
make you a fine pet.”
Fourteen years later you
left a legacy – your CD, AKC
Excellent titles in Agility,
and the coveted ARCH-EX in
Rally. Abby – you overcame
your fears and taught me so
much about how to help you
conquer the world.
Thank you for the lessons
you taught me and for
showing the world that you
are: Braveheart of West
Moreland. You
captured my heart; I miss
you dearly. Until we
meet again…

In Memory of
Winjammer's
Hustle
January 27, 2010
A Tribute
by Julie Norman Jenkins:
For
Hustle:
White face smile. Kind,
playful companion.
Hustle was with me for a
long time, through some hard
times in my life, and always
was a steadfast rock to lean
on and give comfort. She let
us know that she was ready
to go, and slipped
peacefully to the other side
on Jan 27, 2010. She was 16
years, 8 months, and 18 days
old, but who's counting?
Her sister sprint left
behind an impressive list of
titles and accomplishments.
hustle's list was more
modest. But that isn't
what's important. Titles
don't make a dog, and Hustle
was proof of that.
She was the perfect pet and
always seemed to be trying
her best to just be a good
girl. Endlessly patient,
like her mama, Zig, she
definitely taught me lessons
in that respect.
she was a great mother and
produced many wonderful pups
who became "once in a
lifetime" dogs to their
human companions. hustle
passed on her loving, calm
personality and her
beautiful structure and
working ability to all her
pups (and grand-pups)
Hustle was a trooper, ready
to go anywhere and do
anything, she made friends
wherever she went. I'll miss
her, and I hope I get a
chance to see her again some
day

"BRAVA"
1/5/2010
I write you to tell you that
Brava is no longer with us.
What a joy and happy spirit
she was. She was a lesson in
always making lemonade out
of life's lemons. I stand up
and applaud her and all the
happiness she gave me.
I will toast her memory,
salute her photos and keep
her in my heart.
